Things We’re Loving Right Now

GREEN EVERYTHING

With summer arriving here in Maine and the lush beauty it brings, we’ve been inspired by our seasonal landscape and have been really loving everything green lately. From tile, millwork, wall color and fabric, we simply can’t get enough green. We have a long history with the color green and have incorporated green in a multitude of different ways in both past and present projects. With many of our projects located in Maine and the upper east coast, using green in a project is one of our favorite ways to bring the outside landscape in and create a nature inspired moment in a home.

GREEN TILE AND STONE

We’re huge fans of green tile and it’s one of our favorite ways to bring natural elements from the surrounding landscape into the home and the warmth it gives a room. We love how And & + Studio implemented green into their bathroom design and the way it reflects the greenery that lies just outside the expansive window beside the tub. The variation of hue that each tile has brings an organic element to the modern horizontal stack that is seriously beautiful.

We love everything about this shower. The marriage between the stone slabs that are evocative of water with the variegated green tiles brings a heavily organic feel to a modern design.

While you typically see green implemented into millwork through painted cabinetry, we love how Clare Cousins Architects implemented a green stain into the millwork, allowing the beautiful wood grain to shine through, echoing the wood on the ceiling.

For this project, we used Farrow & Ball’s Studio Green on the kitchen cabinetry. What we love about this particular color is how light interacts with it. It has such a versatility that allows it to look like a deep, nearly black green in some lighting, or a rich hunter green in other lighting. We chose this particular green for this project due to its location on a lake. We took inspiration from the surrounding landscape and were heavily influenced by the view of the deeply green trees beyond the water.

Once again, taking inspiration from the surrounding environment, we chose to use Farrow & Ball’s Lichen for the cabinetry in our Loon Lake Cottage, a lovely little home nestled in the old growth trees on the water. We wanted to bring nature into the home but still wanted it to feel light and airy, so we decided on using this particular green to achieve that goal

PRETTY MUCH ANYTHING IF IT’S GREEN

We love the pop of color and warmth this statement headboard brings to this neutral and serene bedroom designed by Studio Life/Style. Using a dark, more neutral green for the headboard adds the perfect pop of color and warmth to the room without being over powering.

The way the greens and blues of the textiles on the bed with the shade of green on the walls in the bedroom is a match made in heaven, and we love what it brings to the space. Using a cooler green on the walls pairs beautifully with the blue accents on the quilt, but continues to be rooted in the green of the rest of the bedding.

OUR TOP 5 GREENS

The hunt to choose the right green can be a daunting task. There’s countless green’s out there to choose from, so we narrowed it down to our top five picks.

Farrow & Ball: Studio Green - A deep, saturated green that is like a chameleon and takes on the hues of its surrounding and morph from nearly back, to a deep hunter green.
Farrow & Ball: Smoke Green - An earthy, middle of the ground green that’s not too light, and not too dark.
Farrow & Ball: Lichen - A great option if you’re looking for a lighter green without getting into pastels.
Portola Paints: Hyde Park - This dark, highly saturated almost blue shade of green paint is the perfect color for a bold and moody moment in a space.
Farrow & Ball: Bancha - We love this vibrant saturated green. It's bold, but still rooted in nature. Fun fact, all of our custom millwork in the MDH office is painted this color!
